Our new blog site!!

Welcome to the first blog for Room 14 in 2012. This is going to be an interesting journey as it is very new to me but....let's give it a go.

Today is Thursday 7 June and I hope everyone has a chance to become a part of this blog site..

Reminders:
Students need to remember PE gear as we will be using it most days and it is really important that they change. Shoes and socks need to be correct from the first day back. For winter it is recommended that students wear leather lace up shoes with socks that come above the ankle. Please don't wear canvas shoes to school.

Lots happening in the next 3 weeks. We have our trip to Auckland Museum next Friday 15 June and student led conferences coming up after that. Please make sure you fill in the form on the back of our school newsletter to book your appointment time.

Look out for our homework sheets and notices that will now be posted each week to make easy access for everyone. Please feed back your comments and ideas.
See you then

  1. Room 14 Homework – Week 2, Term 3, 2012
    1. Your main task this week is to prepare your speech for delivery in Week 3 or 4. We WILL begin listening to speeches on Wednesday 1 August.

    2. Read daily and record in your homework book.

    3. Learn spelling words – there will be a test on Friday.

    4. Practise basic facts every day. Ask for flash cards to help you practise if you would like to take some home.

    Speech preparation:
    1. Complete the initial draft of your speech. Time yourself to make sure your speech meets the required time limit. If it doesn’t, write more or ask for help to see how it can be made longer.
    2. Write the MAIN POINTS of your speech onto cue cards, not your whole speech. Cue cards are to help you remember where you are up to, not to read from. Cue cards should fit in the palm of your hand.
    3. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! You need to know your speech well enough to be able to speak to your audience – not read.

    Check points:
 My speech meets the required time limit
 The main points of my speech are written on cue cards
 I know most of my speech off by heart
 My introduction is catchy and hooks people into listening
 Each paragraph is a new idea or thought
 I have written a conclusion to finish my speech that sums up my point of view
     I have practised heaps!!

    Important reminder...
As part of our Olympic Games celebrations we are focusing on Germany. We would like to make ice cream sundaes the German way (really creative and yummy) and sell them at school. So that we can try our designs out and work out pricing, we all need to bring $2 to school so Mrs Hollinger can buy our ingredients for our trial day. There will be no cost on the day we make them for the school as people will need to prepay to get their order.
